Healthy Weight Loss Daytona Beach

Losing Weight in Daytona Beach Fl

Did you know that Weight Loss in America is a $60 billion industry?  To put that in perspective, if it were a nation it would be bigger than 70% of the world’s 180 economies. If it were a state, it would be as big as the economy of Nebraska.

Globally, the weight loss industry is a staggering $265 billion.

If you were to guess that such a number would attract more than a few less-than-reputable types, you'd be right.

Below is a pop-up ad that I came across a few weeks ago.

Weight Loss Claims

Notice the combination for weight loss: fast, easy and healthy.  If you're like me you can figure how any 2 of those could fit together...but it's disingenuous to say all 3 could be present.
     Fast & easy....but not healthy.

Principles of Healthy Weight Loss

What I'd like to share with you today is just a few, no-nonsense principles to get your weight moving in the right direction.

Make 2 or 3 Key Changes in Your Food Intake
Radical changes in diets don't last.  Don't go there.  Instead, focus on making just a few pivotal changes.  One of the best habits to cultivate is portion control.  Once you master portion control---or at least get really good at it---it's the gift that keeps on giving.  Whether it's Thanskgiving, the Holidays, or your birthday, portion control can keep you healthy and on track.

Another important piece of the puzzle is to control emotional eating.  The first part is to know your triggers, to know what is going to set you off on the path of "a bad food day".  For you, is it stress, boredom, sadness, loneliness or tiredness?  Know thyself.  Know thy triggers.

When you sense an upcoming emotional trigger you can either snack healthy (fresh fruit, veggies with low-fat dip) or better yet, get active and get interactive.  Call a friend.  Play with your dog or cat.  Meet up with a friend for a walk or a movie...anything as long as your active and interactive with someone.

Strength Training & Metabolic Conditioning
Unlike the pop-up above, this definitely doesn't (and shouldn't) come under the category of "easy".  But it's a genuine part of the weight loss answer and there are now a couple of decades of university research to prove it.

Lose weight in Daytona BeachAnd just because it's not easy, doesn't mean it can't be fun.  At Younger You Fitness, our small group training sessions can be entertaining...sometimes maybe too much!

The more social that you can make your workouts, the more fun.  And not only that, but the more social your workouts, the more likely you are to continue.

In 1995, researchers at the University of Southern California examined three social variables of members at a health club and found that

  • socializing outside the club with people met at the club was the best predictor of exercise frequency
  • having friends at the club was the best predictor of the infrequency of skipped workouts
  • exercising with a friend was the best predictor of exercise satisfaction.

More Activities That You Love

All right, so I get it that you probably don't love weight training and you'll only do it when you've got a personal trainer like me and 3 or 4 friends waiting for you.  However, this section is for all of the activities that you already love.

healthy weight loss in Daytona Beach FlThink long walks on the beach.  Playing with your children or grandchildren. Dancing up a storm in zumba or a ballroom dancing class.  Bike riding with a couple of friends.
If more people would do more of the activities that they already love, then this country would be on its way to reversing the obesity epidemic.
What do you love to do?  Prioritize it and give yourself permission to PLAY.

Find a Friendly, Pro-active Support Group
