How Can I Look Younger?
If you’re like most Americans, you’ve probably asked yourself, “How can I look younger?” As a personal trainer in Volusia County, I come across people all the time that want to know how they can look younger. Here’s a few quick pointers...
One of the best ways to look younger is to add some good functional strength training. Nothing says “I’m old” like watching someone struggle up one flight of stairs. In contrast, nothing shows youth and vigor quite like bounding up a couple of flights without looking back. (Just ask my 3 year old!)
Joan Welsh was right on the money when she said, “A man’s health can be judged by which he takes two at a time – pills or stairs.” Nobody wants to be a chronic pill popper, but the good news is that with a good personal trainer you can make solid, real world improvements in just a few, short weeks.
Another way to look and move younger is to lose excess bodyfat. Weight loss is the #1 reason most people seek out a personal trainer. The most noticeable signs that your metabolism is slowing down is that extra weight you start carrying around after your 20’s. A balanced diet and a well thought out fitness routine from your personal trainer delivers a 1-2 punch for weight loss.
The good news is that you don't have to make sudden, radical changes to the way you eat. Those changes never last. Pick 2 or 3 ways that you're going to change---really change---how you eat. Examples include: never skip breakfast, have an antioxidant-packed fruit smoothie for your afternoon snack every day, etc. Stick to them. Give yourself some victories for a few weeks. Then you can move on to adding your next improvement.
Try New Things (Like Zumba Fitness)
Variety is the spice of life. Nothing keeps the brain young and healthy like trying new things and learning new skills. One of the very best things to do to keep you feeling and looking younger is to try new things! If you’re a regular at zumba then add in some yoga or find a personal trainer. If you already have weekly appointments with a personal trainer, then add in some zumba fitness. You definitely don’t need to have any dancing skills to participate in zumba---I can personally attest to this!
(If you're looking to try zumba for yourself, you can't go wrong with Barbara Mitchell. If she can keep me moving in the right direction, she can teach anyone!!)
There you go. A very simple list, a very doable list.
